Have you ever had the opportunity or the chance to do something but got stuck getting to it? In the song Beautiful Day by U2 it explains a story about working hard and realizing the value that you have. This song starts out with a problem and gradually takes small steps getting to a solution. A lot of people, including myself enjoy this song because of its strong lyrics that helps people realize about a beautiful day and yo can leave your problems behind. I can mostly connect this song to our society, myself, and the novel.
This song relates to my life in many different ways. “Your out of luck, and the traffic is stuck, and your not moving anywhere”. I can definitely relate to this song in times were I may be stuck doing school work or pitching in softball. When I am trying very hard to pitch good but not doing my job and my luck is definitely down. I have to realize that I am good and I have the ability to do well and succeed. Sometimes I feel this way and I can relate when I am doing school work. It is almost like I have hit a speed bump to hard and all of my ideas came out. But I have to think that a great idea will come to me. This song also relates to what the value and things that I have. If it is that I am mad at my family or got in a fight with my brother or even in I have to keep in mind all the things that they have done for me. And that I should be grateful for what I have.
This song can relate to the book Small Steps by Louis Sachar. A book about a boy named Theodore who is trying to get his life together after coming back from Camp Green Lake, a juvenile faculty. And a famous pop star, Kaira who has no friends at all. They are both trying to take small steps even though they are very different see special things in each other. “Your on the road, but you’ve got no destination, your in the mud”. This relates to Kaira on tour in the novel. She tours from city to city on her tour bus with no friends. She is trapped and she has no where to go. She is so bored and lonely that she doesn’t feel like she is going anywhere. “You thought you’d found a friend to take you out of this place.” This line connects to Armpit the day he met Kaira. He had never had friends because of his size and his skin color. She was someone who could let him forget about that and realize the value and how special he is. They could both rely on each other and take each other out of the bad places.
This song relates to our society in a number of ways. I tells people that they can have faith and be able to go through the bad times. “See the world in green and blue, and see the bird with a leaf in her mouth.” These are great examples of beautiful things in the world when people in the world only care about money. They should think about happy and beautiful things for awhile and put away the bad things for awhile. This song certainly cheers people up in the morning before they go to work or school. They can focus on the good things and the great value of things in it.
Before writing this assignment I loved this song but didn’t pay attention to the lyrics just the music. However, I have been able to connect and relate more songs now by paying attention to the lyrics. I have been able to gain a deeper understanding of the novel Small Steps by not just stating the obvious. I learned that I can dig deeper to find a true meaning of the song relating to the world around me or even myself. This has been a great experience for me because I can now look deeper and I don’t focus a lot on the words any more.
